HIGH FIVE
A Home Premium Rehabilitation Product & App
Project Overview
'High Five' is a Home Premier Medical Rehabilitation product with application support. I won the design competition and received funding from the Thai government to build this as a startup. The objective of this product and application is to help patients who have "Trigger Fingers Symptoms" cure themselves at home by not having to pay for any high-cost recovery programs, medicines, and operations in order to get over this sickness. We transformed an expensive treatment from the hospital that many people can't afford into an affordable product where patients will still receive the same quality treatment with a simpler and better experience during the rehabilitation process.
For this project, I was working as a product designer and a startup founder. I did user research and analysis, user journey map, user empathy map, market research, and designed primary features based on user analysis to create the highest value that users can get from the app and product.

This project started from I saw my grandparent had symptoms called Trigger Finger and they needed to go to the hospital very often for their rehab. Moreover, this process usually takes them many hours to finish and is quite expensive. This makes me wonder if there is anything that could help people like my grandparents to have a better way to rehab this symptom.
We started off this project by doing literature research on this symptom to find out how much potential this area of study can give us an opportunity to design a product that will help people in the market.

Define
After the discovery phase, we found that Trigger Finger symptom is widespread among people aged around 40-60. However, because the symptom does not look like a big deal in many people's eyes, many people ignore taking physical therapy because it takes too much time and effort when they find out the symptoms. As a result, this usually leads the symptom to get worst. The data we collected from the hospital also show that half of the people who have trigger fingers need to take an operation because they were diagnosed in a severe stage where this will cost them much more money.
From this, we have interviewed 10 physical therapists from both who work in hospitals and rehabilitation centers to gather more insights about what barriers and pain points that preventing people on getting their treatment properly.

All Imported & Expensive
-
Because of the legal restrictions, popular materials such as paraffin that hospitals use to rehab the symptom can't be sold in the market.
-
This prevents many people from accessing effective treatment by themselves, where the only way to cure this is to come to the hospital.
-
Every physical therapy product that Thai hospitals usually prescript the patients to buy is imported and more expensive.
-
People with trigger finger symptoms can't buy it themselves unless they have a prescription from a therapist/doctor.
-
Works great in assisted living facilities but is not feasible in a retail setting.
-
Largely improves patient’s therapy adherence when the patient has to take many courses of physical therapy and purchase rehabilitation product from hospital.

MVP & Product Features
APPLICATION
We built an application that will be a tool for the user to track their progress. This way, it will help users to see their improvement by not losing motivation. Users can choose features depending on their different objectives where each feature will have different exercise instructions. We aimed to build this application to be the first-ever application that will combine tangible rehabilitation products with application that will keep users motivated and engaged with the process. Our application is designed to look very simple and easy to understand for our target users espcially those who have ages between 40-60 years old.
Download the app and choose your product
Evaluate your symptoms from app
On the first use, users will be asked to do a self-evaluation for the application to analyze personal data that will indicate the symptoms of each user. This process is completely the same as the patient evaluation form in the hospital, but minimized into an application form that will save users time and money.
The application will show users what kind of exercise they need to do step by step, and will mark it as done when user has completed their session.
Notifications Reminder
Rehab with the app
In the rehabilitation process, the application will save the date and remind the user the next day. Depending on their symptoms, each patient will have a different length of time to rehab.
Easy Consultation
Patients can book an appointment with physical therapists or doctors for a consultation. This will save patients time to go to the hospital and enable doctors to give patients suggestions where users can pay by an hourly rate.
